Student Tip of the Week:
Contact the financial advisor or college admissions officer with your
better/other "financial aid offer" from another school (if it was a better offer) and
ask if the school you REALLY want to attend can beat or match the offer. Also
look at programs like the "TLU Choice scholarship" at Texus Lutheran
University that will allow students to pay State College Tuition if the students
were previously admitted to UT or Texas A&M..
EP21 Scholarships (Due NLT May 6 2009 at midnight to Mr. Nippy's email acct:
(www.nippy@empowerment21.come). (HOT, HOT, HOT)
Write a 300-400 word essay stating "what you learned from EP21 that helped
you prepare for college". The essay is due to me NLT 6 May. The scholarship
criteria will be based on the contents of the essay and the teen or their parent's
attendance at workshops this school year. (Teens who already won a laptop or
more than $500 within the last 12 months from EP21 are not eligible for this
scholarship)
Twitter Tip:
Note: When you build your twitter account and register with "nippybetz" to get
periodic educational updates. You now have to register to see my educational

going to help us tremendously and keep our expenses down, so thank you from
EP21! For example, those who have a twitter account were already notified about
the EP21 scholarships.
Why build a twitter account with us? There will be money, prizes, and notifications
shared that will change yours or the life of someone you share our information with,
so register now!
For example, 5 teens registered thus far, so I'm going to give each one of them $20
each just because they have faith that EP21 can help them and they are setting the
example for 100's of other EP21 teens to follow.

5. CBS DIVERSITY INSTITUTE - WRITERS MENTORING PROGRAM NOW
ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2009 - 2010 SESSION
Applications are now being accepted for the seventh session of the CBS Diversity
Institute's Writers Mentoring Program. The submission period is March 1, 2009 -
May 1, 2009.
The Writers Mentoring Program helps aspiring writers to break in and move up in
the business. Each participant is matched with two mentors - one is a senior level
writer/producer on a CBS or CW primetime series, the other is a CBS, CW or
Paramount TV creative executive. Participants meet regularly with their mentors for
advice and support on improving their writing skills as well as career advice and
guidance.
With a total of 33 graduates in its first five years, the Program has launched 17
careers in episodic television.
The primary focus of CBS' Diversity Institute Writers Mentoring Program is to
provide access and networking opportunities for talented and motivated diverse
writers - with a focus on writers of color. The program is based in Los Angeles. It
begins in September 2009 and runs through May 1, 2010.
The Writers Mentoring Program is not employment and there is no monetary
compensation. It is, instead, a structured program of career development, support,
and personal access to executives and decision-making processes; with the goal of
preparing aspiring writers for later employment opportunities in television.

6. PROJECT IDENTITY is a federally funded program designed to stimulate interest
in college attendance and the awareness of college entrance requirements for
African-American and other minority males attending middle school. The Project
aims to help to develop and sustain the capacity of middle schools to prepare these
young boys for high school and post-secondary education. By providing a network
of support, particularly for the adults who influence middle school students,
specifically, their counselors and families, Project Identity strives to channel and
direct more minority males to higher education. Project Identity will give special
attention to boys from backgrounds and communities that historically have not
encouraged large numbers to pursue, enroll and succeed in post-secondary
education. Visit http://www.morehouse.edu/projectidentity/ for more details.
